About the Opportunity
This is a flexible contract opportunity for an experienced environmental professional interested in applying their expertise to emerging technology. The initial engagement will focus on evaluating Brownfield AI's existing capabilities, identifying opportunities for improvement, and helping establish processes that meet professional environmental due diligence standards. As our capabilities and customer relationships develop, the opportunity may expand to include ongoing environmental consulting and Phase I ESA project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Product Evaluation & Validation
- Evaluate Brownfield AI's property research and environmental due diligence capabilities.
- Review automated research outputs for accuracy, completeness, and relevance.
- Identify gaps between existing platform capabilities and established environmental due diligence practices.
- Provide recommendations for improving workflows, data quality, and reporting.
- Collaborate with our product development team to translate professional requirements into software functionality.
Environmental Due Diligence
- Advise on requirements associated with ASTM E1527-21 and EPA All Appropriate Inquiries (AAI).
- Assist in developing quality assurance procedures for environmental research and reporting.
- Evaluate the platform's ability to support the preparation of Phase I Environmental Site Assessments.
- Provide professional judgment regarding recognized environmental conditions and other environmental risk indicators.
Potential Project Delivery
- Conduct, supervise, or review Phase I Environmental Site Assessments in accordance with applicable standards.
- Perform or coordinate required site reconnaissance, interviews, and other assessment activities.
- Review and finalize environmental due diligence reports.
- Provide professional oversight and sign completed reports when appropriate and consistent with applicable requirements.
Qualifications
Required
- Meets the definition of an Environmental Professional under 40 CFR § 312.10.
- Demonstrated experience conducting and/or supervising Phase I Environmental Site Assessments.
- Strong working knowledge of ASTM E1527-21 and EPA All Appropriate Inquiries requirements.
- Experience reviewing environmental regulatory databases, historical property records, and environmental risk indicators.
- Strong analytical, technical writing, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently in a flexible consulting arrangement.
Preferred
- Five or more years of experience in environmental consulting or environmental due diligence.
- Experience managing Phase I ESA projects from initiation through final delivery.
- Professional Engineer (PE), Professional Geologist (PG), or other relevant professional credentials.
- Familiarity with brownfield redevelopment, commercial real estate transactions, or environmental risk management.
- Interest in artificial intelligence, workflow automation, or emerging environmental technologies.
- Experience operating an independent environmental consulting practice.
Engagement Structure
We anticipate beginning with a limited-scope, paid consulting engagement focused on product evaluation and technical feedback. Depending on mutual interest and business needs, this relationship may expand into ongoing advisory work, project-based environmental consulting, and Phase I ESA delivery. We are open to working with independent environmental professionals and established consulting practices.
